Paphiopedilums are some of the most widely cultivated of the orchids. Commonly called slipper orchids, the name refers to the lip of the flower which, is pouch shaped and used to attract pollinators.

Paphiopedilum hybrids enjoy moderate humidity and temperatures, many modern hybrids are easier to grow at home than the original species. In winter give Paphiopedilum hybrids full light, water sparingly, but don't allow the compost to dry out between watering.
