Phlox are classic mid-border cottage garden plants, which flower between July and October.Phlox paniculata 'Eclaireur' produces bright purple flowers with a white base to each petal, and is perfect for a mixed or herbaceous border in sun or partial shade. Good companion plants include different coloured cultivars, especially 'Eva Cullum' (pink with a dark centre), 'Prince of Orange' (deep salmon) and 'Starfire' (cherry red).
For best results grow Phlox paniculata 'Eclaireur' in a moist soil in sun or partial shade. Stake plants as they grow taller, particularly in exposed areas. Deadhead regularly to extend the flowering season, and divide clumps every three to four years.
