Perennial or border phlox, Phlox paniculata, is a tall-growing phlox native to the USA, typically with pink flowers. However there are many garden-worthy cultivars available in a range of heights and with different coloured flowers, making them a popular stalwart of the traditional border.
Perennial phlox is renowned for its colourful flowers with a sweet, honey-like fragrance. It’s an ideal choice for the middle of a border, and thrives in rich, moist soil in light shade.
Phlox paniculata 'Miss Elie’ bears large, red-pink flowers. Unlike many species of perennial phlox, ‘Miss Elie’ is resistant to mildew. Plant it in next to a path where you can enjoy its scent. It makes an excellent cut flower.
