Physocarpus 'Diable D'or' is a stylish deciduous shrub, grown for its colourful foliage, which emerges a vibrant coppery red and turns deeper, purple-red as it matures. Clusters of pink-white flowers in summer complete the look. When plants reach maturity the bark peels away in layers. It's ideal for growing in a mixed herbaceous border and looks fantastic when grown alongside lime-green coloured plants.

For best results grow Physocarpus 'Diable D'or' in moist but well-drained, slightly acidic soil, in sun or partial shade. Avoid chalky soils. Prune back to the base after flowering to encourage colourful new growth. Mulch in autumn with well-rotted compost or manure.
