The flowers of wintersweet, Chimonanthus praecox, are renowned for their intense winter fragrance. Small waxy, light sulphur yellow blooms with brownish purple inner petals form on bare branches in late winter, and work well in indoor floral arrangements. Chimonanthus praecox 'Luteus' has completely yellow, slightly larger flowers than the species, without the purple inner petals. It blooms later in winter than original wintersweet, but its fragrance is not as strong.

For best results grow Chimonanthus praecox 'Luteus' against a warm sheltered wall in full sun. Mulch annually with well-rotted manure or compost.
