Purple loosestrife, Lythrum salicaria 'Feuerkerze', is a tall-growing marginal perennial that enjoys growing on banks of streams and around ponds. It has strong, upright stems, topped in summer with long, poker-like heads of deep pink blooms. A double-flowered cultivar that produces considerably less seed, minimising unwanted seedlings.

For best results grow Lythrum salicaria 'Feuerkerze' in moist soil, such as around the edge of a pond. Plants shouldn't need staking but deadhead spent blooms regularly to maintain a tidy appearance, or leave them on to provide winter interest. Divide clumps every three to five years to avoid congestion. Lythrum salicaria 'Feuerkerze' works well grown alongside other moisture-loving plants such as inula, veronicastrum and ligularias.
