Rebutia krainziana is a clump-forming cactus, forming dark green, barrel-shaped stems up to 7cm in diameter, with contrasting small, white areoles and spines. In late spring large, intensely red, flowers with yellow throats appear. Eventually, offsets (sometimes referred to as ‘pups’ will develop around the main stem, forming a tight clump.

Rebutia krainziana (yellow form) has deep yellow flowers. It makes a dramatic statement as a houseplant and looks good when grown with other coloured forms of rebutia.

Grow Rebutia krainziana (yellow form) in cactus compost in a sunny, sheltered spot such as a conservatory or windowsill. Water sparingly in summer, allowing the compost to dry out between waterings, and add a liquid fertiliser fortnightly. In autumn stop watering altogether and move to a cooler part of the house, to encourage flowering next season.
