Native to South Africa, Rhodohypoxis are small, clump-forming, bulbous perennials. They bear single, star-shaped flowers in white, pink, red or purple, over tufts of grass-like, hairy leaves. Ideal for growing as ground cover in sun, they’re also suitable for growing in containers or granite troughs for alpine displays.
Rhodohypoxis ‘Dawn’ has delicate, baby-pink flowers that gradually fade to white. Plant corms 4cm deep in well-drained, humus-rich, neutral to acidic soil. Deadhead spent blooms to prolong flowering and mulch with leaf mould in autumn. Plants may need protection or lifting in winter.
