Plant details

An inexpensive, fast-growing and undemanding shrub, this provides plenty of colour, both in spring when the pink flower trusses appear, and for the rest of the summer when its yellow foliage glows cheerfully in shaded borders. Plants resemble the fruiting blackcurrant, sharing the same pungent fragrance and need for fertile conditions. The roots are shallow, and a spring mulch on light soils will prevent die-back or wilting foliage. Ruthless pruning keeps plants bushy and rejuvenated. This is slower-growing and smaller than the basic species.
