Maincrop potato varieties occupy the ground longer than other kinds, but produce the heaviest yields, often with very large tubers ideal for baking.

Solanum tuberosum 'Valor' bears produces heavy crops of oval, white skinned potatoes with creamy flesh. A versatile variety, tubers are suitable for boiling, steaming, mashing, baking, sauteing, roasting, and frying. Plants show resistance to tuber blight, potato leaf roll virus and potato cyst nematode. They also cope well with drought, making them a good variety to try if you have dry soil.

For best results grow Solanum tuberosum 'Valor' in fertile, moist but well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade. Water the tubers a fortnight before lifting to increase their size.
