He explains what compost mix to use and how to plant two varieties of tulip bulbs: pink 'Negrita' and dark purple 'Queen of Night' for flowers in April and May. Then for winter interest he adds silver-leaved Euphorbia characias 'Silver Swan' and Brachyglottis 'Walberton's Silver Dormouse', with a fringe of dark grass-like Ophiopogon planiscapus 'Nigrescens' and Viola 'Black Delight' around the edges.
