Monty Don plants up a container of evergreens for winter interest and tulip bulbs for spring colour, in this video clip from Gardeners' World. He explains what compost mix to use and how to plant two varieties of tulip bulbs: pink 'Negrita' and dark purple 'Queen of Night' for flowers in April and May. Then for winter interest he adds silver-leaved Euphorbia characias 'Silver Swan' and Brachyglottis 'Walberton's Silver Dormouse', with a fringe of dark grass-like Ophiopogon planiscapus 'Nigrescens' and Viola 'Black Delight' around the edges.
