Peony

Hi is it possible to buy peony seeds, if so how long would it take to grow a peony plant and how fast do they grow.

You can-but you are going to need a lot of patience-they can take months to germinate and 5 years to flower.

peony seeds need to be soaked, frozen for a month or six weeks and then defrosted for a few weeks- its easiest just to plant them in the autumn-surface sow after soaking and leave them til the next spring when the will germinate, they hybridize easily but do take three years to reach blooming size- i have four new ones that will bloom this year.

We've always had peonies at home, I've recently liberated some from my Grannys garden that her grandad planted well not those exact ones but they've come down from those!

Every year we split some off and give them to other family members or friends. They do sulk for a little while but once they get comfy in their new bed they're beautiful deep pink blooms..... Is there anyone you know close by who might consider swapping some of their peony for somthing in your garden? ( Cheaper and Quicker!)

We're in Lancs but the old family home has just been sold.... I think every one of my relitives has been around to my Grannies house liberating just 1 tuber each before the sale went through!!!

Thats a shame we are in Bury!!  We will buy a plant and hopefully it will take, many years ago I bought a plant but it didn't do anything so dug it up, perhaps I wasn't patient enough.
