Hi everyone,

Hoping you can help identify this plant, I found it growing in between the paving slabs last year and decided to pot it up as I had not seen it before. It is now 12" high and wide .Thanks

    Just don't let it seedimage

Rumex sanguineus, red veined dock. Came from nowhere to my garden, now it's everywhere though I can't remember ever having seen it flower and seed.

Quite pretty in leaf though, adds a little something to the lawnimage

Red veined sorrel (aka Bloody sorrel)?

Edit: Oops - I think nut has it right - red veined dock!

Also known as Bloody dock (but I call all dock plants that!) image

Edit 2: Same thing and apparently you can eat it but not sure I would:

I grow it as red veined sorrel - we eat it in soups etc as with other sorrel.

Presumably related to bloody sycamore and bloody dandelions?

Thanks for answering so quickly. I think I will keep it but just make sure it does not seed itself.

  • Dove - does it taste quite hot? It looks like a plant that came up in a salad leaf seed mix I grew once.
