Plant identification

ripaulripaul Posts: 8

Hello,

Here's a few photos of trees and shrubs that need identifying. We moved here in the winter and would like to maintain the beautiful garden. I have no idea what they are and how to look after them. It's all a bit overgrown but I'm reluctant to do anything until I know how to look after them properly! Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

  • The first one, my first thought was camellia but on closer inspection I think it could be Photinia

The second one is cotinus ( smoke tree )

The third one is choisia sun dance

The fourth one looks like some kind of elder

The fith one I don't know but I'm sure someone will come up with a list.

I think 4 may be a rowan and 5 looks like a variegated weigela.

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

The 4th one is Sambucus racemosa plumosa aurea.

5th one could be the variegated Weigela, has it got any pink flowers?

  • I agree with the identification of Photinia Red Robin, Cotinus, Choisya Sundance and Sambucus aurea. Could the variegated shrub be a variety of Euonymus?

I agree with the others for 5, variegated weigela.

Did it have leaves when you moved in this winter?  I ask because Euonymous is an evergreen.
