I was going to put up a trellis to act as as a screen from next door, but with the problems cost and getting one made to fit I have decided to put up hedging,

has anyone got a cherry laurel in the garden and will it do the job of screening.

Cherry laurel are very fast growing and vigorous but have berries that look like cherries and which are poisonous. If you have children or if the bush would be in a place that children could reach, I wouldn't plant one.

I agree,.you'd do better with something you can trim to the shape you want with a hedge trimmer. Laurels need pruning with secateurs otherwise you get brown edges to those large leaves. Something with small leaves makes a better hedge.

Privet still has a place. Not very exciting but it does the job.

And the flowers smell lovely.
