Couch grass

Hi, would an underground barrier of some kind be an answer to the rampant spread of this pain from next door, how deep can the stems or stolons go? I have removed every bit from my garden and want to keep it well under control, thanks

It doesn't go really deep like bindweed, so a 6" (15cm) deep barrier would probably be enough, or 12" (30cm) to be sure, especially light soils.

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

Cheers Bob, soils been well dug over, found some over 12" down but seems to have died,(black and weak), just want to force it up so it doesn't get a foot hold

hi Pash I used a black damp course polythene I was given I cut it to suit. I had it about 16inches and had 8inches above and below ground. This was seven years ago and has been successful. Nothing worse than encroaching grass from a neighbours garden Jenny
