Spruce needles

Evening guys. I planted our potted christmas spruce mid January in our garden as it seemed a shame to throw it out and it has always looked great. Just recently the ends of the branches have started new green and health growth except the needles towards the centre of the tree have turned brown and have died. Is this normal as there is new growth coming through? Thank you.

conifers do go brown in the middle anthony but not so it affects the appearance of the tree. if you part the branches it's brown inside but the tree looks green. Is that what you've got orhave you got brown on the surface?

  • Hi nutcutlet. There is no brown on the surface at all, infact it's a fresh, bright and new growth. I was thinking that if there is a problem then this new growth wouldn't be coming through as vibrant and rapid. You can see the brown deep down without parting the branches but the surface is healthy
