I would be grateful to hear from anyone up north who are growing step over apples as I am thinking of planting some on my allotment, being in the north of the country I hear there are particular varieties that do better than others, ie cox,s are not to good up here (York).......many thanks

It really depends on what you can find as a pre-trained stepover tree, unless you are planning to start from scratch.

I have found Gala, Braeburn and James Grieve to do well in the Peak District where we get cold winters, heavy snows and shortish summers. I currently have a stepover Braeburn and had a Gala done the same way in the past.

Great info pansyface just what I have been looking for, many thanks and have a great weekend...JPC
