can anybody help me on starting a seed swap event next year.i am thinking of holding it at our local community centre in march, but i have never been to one only heard about them so would like some tips please.is march too late/early,how do you regulate the swapping?
Hi cotty, only started seed swopping this year, mainly on here, but I did go to one locally and that was in March. It was a very relaxed swop so much so that I forgot to take any seeds, and just gave a donation for any seeds that I wanted.
The one I went to was advertised in our "green book", maybe check with the council and other groups to see what's out there already or as a way to advertise.
Think the hardy plant society has a yearly one which might be useful for information.
Good luck with yours, I've really enjoyed all the swopping I've done so far
The HPS seed list is different to a seed swap. Seed is sent in by members during the year then sorted and listed by a team of members. The list is then circulated to the membership who can buy at a very reasonable rate, something like £5 or £6, for 15 or 20 packets of their choice.
There have been several seed swaps around the country and you might find some info on line. Or a contact for someone who can advise.
thanks for your help.i will ask them for advice then i will speak to the village produce association, who have cheap supplies throughout the year and next week hold an annual plant sale, full of cuttings, offsets, seedlings for next to nothing.
do you know what happened to the donation?
How do I get into seed swapping on here please?
I do a plant swap in work. Planet and seed swap together would be a good idea.
would imagine a seed swap quite straight forward. Would you need to think about some instructions on how people package the seeds? Publicity would be the biggest issue, need to get something in the local papers, posters, contact gardening clubs allotments etc
Hi lucky, not a lot of seed swapping going on here now. It's all been sowed. Just stick with the forum and it will come round again later in the year. If you do a site search for seed swap you'll be able to see how it goes.
