Ceanothus

Hi my ceanothus isn't looking too good, in fact it looks dead. Its been in the same spot for years and never seen it look like this. Any advise peeps.

    I'd agree - not looking goodimage.  They are not long lived plants (about 20 years I think) - so maybe its time is up?

    image Gutted, love this shrub with its lilac flowers. Looks like its time to cut it down.

    Looking at it as a opportunity to plant something new helps a bit when I lose something like that. image

    A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
  • My friend last year cut her large ceanothus down to about 2 foot from the ground and it put on nice new growth and looks very healthy this year,

    what have you got to lose if it's dead it's not going to put on new growth but if there is still life in the bottom it might reshoot. Worth a try.

    Cheers Chrissy i'll cut it down to 2 foot and see if it comes back.

    Totally agree with Verdun, Dead bush cut back gives you a dead stump
