Alchemilla mollis

Does anyone know reasons why an Alchemilla mollis might choose not to flower?

  • I wish mine wouldn't flower!  I love the foliage but sometimes forget to remove the flowers quick enough and, as Philippa alluded to, now have them everywhere.  The roots are extremely tough so digging them out is now a bit of a regular chore.

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

If it is a 1st year plant/new seedling,  usually it won't flower until the 2nd year.  Once you have them, you have them for life as they are prolific self seeders.image

I've had one big clump for 5 years and although it flowers all summer, it has never set seed. What am I doing wrong ?

Did you deadhead it E'sMum? They normally set seed quite rapidly after flowering - as most of us discover if we don't get the scissors out sharpish  image

The roots are ridiculously brutal aren't they bob? Even on the teeny tiniest scrap of foliage   image

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
