Carrots under fleece

To try to solve my ever present problem of carrot fly, I planted an area of carrot seed under fleece as per Monty's suggestion. His video says just leave them, and they will grow through the fleece, and don't have to be touched until ready for pulling. I used a very thin fleece, but the seedlings are growing, but not coming through the fleece, only laying flat under it. Has anbybody got any experience of this method, please ?

They won't grow through the fleece, just push it upwards. If you lay the fleece down tight the leaves will just be squashed, the fleece needs some height to it
