It looks very much as if it might be. Wish something like that would crop up in my garden! image

Is it regrowth from the base of those dead sticks beside it?

  • Yes nutcutlet...does that give us a clue of some sort?

you're thinking of Mexican (or something) orange blossom  Philippa.

Mock orange is what some people call Philadelphus, which my mum used to called syringa, which  is lilac.

OK if I stick to the proper names? image

Hattie, just wondered and the sticks are Philadelphus which this is. I'd cut the dead bits off.image

It's a Philadelphus, aka mock orange.

Old stems right, leaves and flowers right

    Scent right.

It's bit spindly and wavy stemmed which could give an impression of a climber like clematis,

I've always found that confusing. I've often heard Choisya called Mock Orange too.  My brain can't cope with it all ...  image  image

Nice little find though Hattie. They do have a lovely scent-especially on a warm evening   image

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
