What is this?

Does anyone have any idea what this is on my rose? It had to of them on there yesterday. Also have a greenfly problem and wondered if they are related? Any tips on dealing with greenfly?

    I took one of those to Chelsea once , about a million years ago, and showed it to the great Pippa Greenwood, neither of us knew what it was. They scrape a groove in the roses and lay eggs in there. It didn't seem to harm the plant and just left a bit of a scar .

    Looks like it might be a Capsid bug.

    A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.
  • I think it is a rose sawfly, if you search in google you can see some similar images. I found think link on the RHS. http://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profile?PID=196
