How to make mowing your lawn quicker and easier

Want to level-up your lawn care? Segway’s latest Navimow robotic mowers can handle even the most complex gardens at just the touch of a button

As we head into spring, you’re probably itching to get back into the garden to give everything a good tidy – and that includes giving the grass a much-needed trim.

Whatever the size of your lawn, mowing can become particularly time-consuming in the warmer months, as the grass grows more quickly and needs regular cutting to stay healthy. But with Segway’s Navimow i2 Series robotic mowers, you can keep your lawn looking its best throughout the cutting season without lifting a finger.

What is the Navimow?

Launched in 2021, the Navimow was Segway’s first foray into gardening tools, powered by more than 20 years of robotic expertise. Its Exact Fusion Location System (EFLS) revolutionised lawncare with its centimetre-level precise positioning that allowed the mower to operate within virtually mapped boundaries, with no perimeter wires needed.

Now, Segway is taking that advanced navigation a step further with its brand-new Navimow i2 Series mowers: the i2 AWD and the i2 LiDAR. Whether you have a simple patch of grass or a garden full of twists and turns, these clever mowers can map your lawn in minutes with just one click, so you can simply pop them down and mow.

Master the rough, turn with care

If you need a mower that can tackle any terrain, whatever the weather, the i2 AWD is the one for you. While traditional AWD (All-Wheel Drive) mowers can sometimes slip or lock wheels when turning, leading to torn-up turf and mud baths, this one features grass-friendly, Xero-turn™ AWD technology for gentler handling and tighter turns. So, it can navigate your entire garden without scuffing, digging or leaving divots in delicate grass.

The AWD also keeps it stable on any surface, including root-covered ground, uneven stone paths, muddy or slippery patches. Plus, it can traverse slopes of up to 45 per cent (24 degrees) thanks to its automotive-grade ESC (Electronic Stability Control), which ensures stable slope handling and minimised side slips.

Better still, the third wheel activates only when needed to save energy. This reduces the mower’s power consumption by up to 30 per cent when compared with a full-time (always-on) three-wheel drive system.

Alternatively, if your garden is full of trees, paths and tricky corners, the i2 LiDAR can navigate your space effortlessly, both during the day and at night. Its super simple setup requires no GNSS antenna installation or wiring, making it a true plug-and-play experience.

Meanwhile, its solid-state LiDAR+ (Light Detection and Ranging) Vision scans nearly 200,000 points per second, creating an ultra-detailed spatial map that enables it to mow complex landscapes, such as under trees, through narrow paths or even at night. Unlike mechanical LiDAR, solid-state LiDAR doesn’t have any fragile moving parts that could wear over time. Instead, it’s fully embedded into the mower, offering a robust, long-lasting solution with four times higher resolution for ultimate precision.

As it moves, the mower’s AI-driven VisionFence™ sensor can detect more than 200 types of obstacles, including moving animals, suspended garden equipment and objects as small as one centimetre. And once it’s fully mapped your garden, you can easily adjust boundaries and fine-tune your mowing plan via GeoSketch™ in the Navimow app, which offers you a customisable view of your space.
