Collerette dahlias have a central ring of short petals, or florets, surrounded by an outer ring of longer petals with a fairly large disc at the very centre. Dahlia 'Yankee Doodle Dandy' bears large flowers of pink, white, yellow and mauve, each with a distinctive 'collar' of florets. Plants are compact and bushy, making Dahlia 'Yankee Doodle Dandy' an ideal choice for the front of a border or in a pot on the patio.
For best results, grow in full sun in fertile, well-drained soil. Deadhead regularly and feed with a potash-rich fertiliser to prolong flowering. Lift tubers after the first frosts and store them in a cool, dry situation until March. Then pot them up and keep them in a temperate greenhouse before planting out in late May.
