Heleniums add impact to the late summer and early autumn border, with their daisy-like red and yellow flowers. Heleniums aren’t too fussy, and thrive in most soils with good drainage.

The flowers of Helenium 'El Dorado' have gorgeous deep brown centres with gold-yellow petals that bear the smallest hints of red. Grow it in drifts, perhaps merging with airy Stipa gigantea and Persicaria 'Orange Field'. It may need staking on exposed sites. Keep deadheading the flowers to ensure a long season of flowers.
