Lacecaps and mopheads are the most commonly grown hydrangeas in our gardens. Mopheads have full, round heads of large petals, and lacecaps have flattish flower heads of large outer petals and tiny flowers in the centre.
Hydrangea macrophylla 'Selma' is a pretty mophead hydrangea, bearing lrge clusters of deep pink flowers from summer to autumn. Like most hydrangeas, plants grown in alkaline soils produce pink flowers, while those grown in acid soils bear blue flowers. Therefore, for best results, grow ‘Selma’ in alkaline soil.
‘Selma’ is perfect for growing in a mixed, herbaceous border, especially when used in conjunction with other hydrangeas. It makes an excellent cut flower.
