Narcissus 'Fortune' is a large-cupped daffodil, bearing rich buttery yellow flowers with pale orange trumpets. Although sometimes forced in January for early cutting, and also grown as pot plant for display, it's a fine variety for growing en masse in borders, or naturalising in lawns or under trees.

Plant Narcissus 'Fortune' bulbs in early autumn, at one and half times their own depth. Alternatively, for an indoor display plant the bulbs 5cm deep in early autumn, in a loam-based compost. Plunge the pots in a coldframe outdoors until new shoots appear, and then move them to a greenhouse and increase the heat. As the buds begin to open, take the plants indoors to enjoy the beautiful blooms.
