There are several good varieties of osteospermum to choose from, but Osteospermum jucundum var. compactum is particularly garden worthy. Plants have narrow, green foliage, which quickly spreads to provide attractive, weed-suppressing groundcover. The cheerful purple flowers are produced throughout summer and into autumn.

For best results, grow Osteospermum jucundum var. compactum in well-drained soil in full sun. In areas where temperatures are likely to fall below -5°C in winter, grow in pots which you can move indoors in autumn.
