Prunus 'Spire' is a popular ornamental cherry with conical, almost upright growth, grown in streets, parks and gardens. Its pretty pink blooms appear as an impressive froth of colour from early April, earlier than other ornamental cherries. This is complemented beautifully with its foliage, which starts off a rich reddish-purple, later turning yellowish, and then deep green, before rich red autumn tints finish its display.

Grow Prunus 'Spire' in moist but well-drained soil in full sun. Pruning is seldom necessary, but over-large trees may be trimmed in late summer. The Royal Horticultural Society has given it its prestigious Award of Garden Merit (AGM).
