Ornamental pear, Pyrus communis subsp. caucasica, has a dark grey to black trunk and glossy dark green serrated leaves. In April it bears a profusion of single white blooms, which are a magnet for pollinators. These are followed by edible, albeit tasteless, pears in autumn.

Grow Pyrus communis subsp. caucasica in moist but well-drained soil in a sheltered spot in full sun.
