How to...

make a pebble mosaic path

Pebble mosaic path

You will need:

  • 2-3cm diameter pebbles
  • Slate chippings
  • A bag of ready-mixed cement
  • 26 litre tub trug
  • Pieces of steel mesh large enough to fit base of tub trug

Overview

Pebble mosaic makes the perfect surface for stepping stones to create an informal path in areas of lawn or gravel and is not only decorative but also extremely durable, and protects grass from wear and tear. Rounded tactile pebbles and slate in earthy shades produce natural-looking effects and appealing textures that will add interest to any stretch of lawn.

How to do it

  1. Mixing cement in trugMix the cement according to the instructions. Put a smooth layer of the mix over the bottom of the trug.

  2. Placing wire mesh on top of cementPlace a piece of mesh on top of the cement then add another layer of the mixture.

  3. Pressing pebbles into cementPress the pebbles into the cement to form a pattern.

  4. Removing set stepping stone from trugLeave the cement to set overnight before removing the stepping stone.

  5. Cutting around mosaic stepping stonePut the stepping stone into position, and cut into the lawn around it with an old kitchen knife.

  6. Remove the circle of lawn and press the stepping stone into place.
