Cranesbill, or hardy geraniums, are perennial border plants with saucer-shaped flowers in shades of pink, purple and blue. They're easy to grow, thrive in shade and flower for months. Geraniums are popular in cottage garden schemes and offer a long season of pollen and nectar for a number of pollinators, particularly bees.
Geranium cinerium 'Memories' forms a dense, low-growing mat of dark-green leaves, which contrast beautifully with bright purple flowers with black centres. It's well suited to growing in rock gardens or used for edging paths. It also works well in containers.
For best results grow Geranium cinerium 'Memories' in a sunny spot in well-drained soil. Cut back plants after flowering to promote bushy growth.
