Chalky / Alkaline / Clay / Heavy / Moist / Well Drained / Light / Sandy
Geums are familiar favourites in herbaceous borders, although they also work well in larger rock gardens, developing into mounds of neat, dense foliage. They need a little space for their flowers, which tend to be produced on long, spreading stems.
Geum 'Scarlet Tempest' is a new variety introduced in 2016. A sterile hybrid, it bears large, double, scarlet flowers with an apricot flush, from mid spring. It then flowers again, with slightly smaller flowers, from midsummer to autumn. The plant was bred by plantswoman Elizabeth MacGregor at her nursery in Scotland. It is a cross between Geum 'Beech House Apricot' and Geum chiloense 'Red Dragon'.
For best results grow in moist but well-drained soil, at the front of ornamental borders. To prolong flowering, deadhead regularly.
