Bearded irises have 'beards' on each of the falls (lower petals) of the flowers. Iris 'Quechee' is a common sight at the Chelsea Flower Show. It bears large, orange-red flowers with a golden-yellow centre and an orange-yellow beard, on tall stems. The flowers have a delicate chocolate orange scent. It's ideal for growing in a sunny mixed herbaceous border or gravel garden, and makes an excellent cut flower.
For best results grow Iris 'Quechee' in well-drained soil in full sun, and mulch with well-rotted manure or garden compost annually. Divide congested clumps every three to five years.
