Pruning wisteria in winter

Discover how to prune your wisteria while it's dormant, in David Hurrion's No Fuss video guide.

Wisteria needs to be pruned twice a year – once in summer and once in winter, while the plant is dormant. In this video guide to winter-pruning wisteria, David Hurrion explains how to restrict vigorous, leafy growth so that it doesn’t obscure developing flower buds.

He demonstrates cutting back whippy, extension growth formed since the plant was last pruned, in the previous summer. David then identifies young growth which can be trained along wires while plants are becoming established.
