Another way to reduce the build up of algae in your pond is to stop using tap water to top it up. Tap water contains much higher levels of nitrates than rainwater. This leads to a build up of nutrients, feeding plants such as duck weed and blanket weed. Topping up with water from your water butt instead can dramatically reduce the amount of nutrients in your pond.
