Deschampsia cespitosa is a spectacular fountain-shaped grass, bearing densely tufted evergreen foliage, from which tall sprays of silver-tinted purple flowerheads appear in summer. It's a fantastic choice for growing between shrubs and perennials in ornamental borders, and is a good option for a wildflower meadow. The seedheads persist well into winter and become bronze-brown with age – they work well in dried winter flower arrangements.

Deschampsia cespitosa ‘Goldtau’ has silvery, red-brown flower spikes which mature to a soft golden yellow. For best results, grow in dappled sun to partial shade. Remove faded seedheads in late winter before new growth appears.
