Acer palmatum is a deciduous, woody shrub native to parts of Asia and Russia. There are many garden-worthy cultivars available, which have been bred for their leaf shapes and colours.

Acer palmatum 'Crippsii' is a dwarf Japanese maple, well suited to growing in large pot or small garden. The pretty, serrated leaves are deep green throughout summer, maturing to a rich orange before falling in autumn. Grow ‘Crippsii’ next to a busy path where you can appreciate its beauty, or in a mixed, herbaceous border. It prefers a sheltered, slightly shady spot, where its leaves won’t be scorched by the sun.
