The snakebark maple, Acer x conspicuum, is named for its fantastic striped bark, which is particularly striking in winter. Like many acers, its leaves develop dramatic autumn colours. It can be grown as a small tree or over-sized shrub,

Acer x conspicuum 'Elephant's Ear' is an unusual snakebark maple. It has particularly large leaves, which are green in summer and become golden yellow before falling in autumn. The bark is dark green with bold, vertical silver stripes.

For best results grow Acer x conspicuum 'Elephants Ear' in moist but well-drained soil in a sheltered site in dappled shade. Ensure the soil doesn't dry out in summer, but is not too moist in winter.
