Native to North America, the mountain deathcamas, Anticlea elegans, is a bulbous perennial. The common names alludes to the fact that all parts of the plant are poisonous. Toxicity aside, it's a highly attractive plant that forms clumps of upright, grassy foliage, topped by creamy-green flowers in late summer. Pollinating hoverflies are particularly attracted to the flowers. It makes a lovely addition to a gravel or alpine garden.

For best results, grow Anticlea elegans in full sun or partial shade in deep, moist and well-drained soil.
