Korean chrysanthemums were once popular for use as hardy perennials for borders and cottage garden schemes, as they are hardy and free flowering. A few of the best have survived, including Chrysanthemum 'Ruby Mound', which bears large double ruby red flowers from late summer into autumn. It makes an excellent cut flower.

Grow Chrysanthemum 'Ruby Mound' in moist but well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade. If grown in a crowded border plants do not usually need staking, especially if an informal look is desired. Plants may need staking on windier sites, and winter protection is advised in northerly and exposed regions.
