Umbrella leaf, Diphylleia cymosa, is a woodland plant grown for its attractive, deeply cut foliage, which emerge with red hues and mature to fresh green. In early summer, clusters of small white flowers appear, which are followed by blue berries on red stalks.
Grow Diphylleia cymosa in moisture-retentive soil in full shade and mulch annually with leaf mould. There’s no need to cut back – foliage will die down naturally in late autumn.
