Erythranthe cardinalis, or the scarlet monkeyflower is a short-lived, bushy perennial with bright red flowers that are bilaterally symmetrical, like snapdragons. It's native to west North America, including Mexico, California, Nevada and Utah where it grows in moist soils in wetlands or near springs and streams. The fuzzy and sticky foliage can be cut back after flowering to keep the plant looking neat.

Erythranthe cardinalis 'Red Dragon' has darker flowers and foliage than the species, as well as dark purple calyces. Brilliant for a long season of flowers and will attract butterflies.

For best results, grow Erythranthe cardinalis 'Red Dragon' in moist, well-drained soil in full sun or partial shade.
