Native to Sicily, Euphorbia ceratocarpa bears yellow-green flowers over a very long period, in contrast with mid-green leaves. It’s perfect for growing with foliage plants, as it’s yellow-green flowers lift darker colours, but it’s also the perfect foil for contrasting bold colours such as red and purple. The flowers are excellent for cutting, and are especially useful in later autumn and winter, when few other plants are in bloom. The Royal Horticultural Society has given it its prestigious Award of Garden Merit.
Grow Euphorbia ceratocarpa in moist but well-drained soil in full sun to partial shade. Remove faded flowers after blooming. Always wear gloves when working with spurges as the milky sap is a skin irritant and can damage your eyes.
