Blue fescue, Festuca tatrae, is a dwarf ornamental grass, ideal for growing in a rock garden. It bears stiff, thread-like blue foliage and steel blue flower-heads in dense, upright tussocks. Plants look fantastic when grown with a variety of other plants, and also work well in containers. Alternatively grow several plants 20cm or more apart as ground cover in front of shrubs, in a well-drained border.
Festuca tatrae bears slender, elegant and dusky green leaves, and arching flowers in early summer. To ensure plants develop the most intense blue colouration, keep them dry in summer.
