Heucheras, Heuchera sanguinea, are native to the woodlands of North America. They tend to grow in dense clumps and have brightly coloured foliage. They thrive in shade and make great groundcover plants. While plants are mainly grown for their foliage, inconspicuous flowers in summer add to their charm.

For bets results grow Heuchera sanguinea in a mixed herbaceous border in partial shade, and is also in containers on a shady patio. The leaves can scorch in full sun. Extra plants are easily raised by removing the side crowns from a clump in late-summer. It looks good grouped with other heucheras with different coloured leaves, including the likes of 'Pewter Moon' (silver with dark veining) and 'Chocolate Ruffles' (red-chocolate).
