Bearded irises are so-named after the 'beards' on each of the falls (lower petals) of the flowers. Plicata irises have two or three colours and rimmed petals, dotted or stitched with colour, often on a white or yellow background.

Iris 'Patina' is a plicata bearded iris. Its scented flowers are an unusual colour - greenish yellow all over, with olive-brown tones. It's perfect for growing in a mixed herbaceous border or gravel garden, and makes an excellent cut flower.

For best results grow Iris 'Patina' in well-drained soil in full sun, and mulch with well-rotted manure or garden compost annually.
