Formerly known as Dicentra spectablilis, Lamprocapnos spectabilis is a Chinese plant bearing heart-shaped flowers that hang from arching flower stems in late spring to early summer. It is also known as bleeding heart.
Lamprocapnos spectabilis ‘King of Hearts’ bears vigorous clumps of grey-green leaves, contrasting with clusters of delicate, dangling heart-shaped, red flowers.
Brilliant for spring displays after spring-flowering bulbs, bleeding heart is invaluable for bringing colour to cool, moist shady parts of the garden. Grow clumps between shrubs, as drifts in light woodland, or in ornamental borders. It can also be grown in containers and sunny areas, as long as the compost/soil remains moist.
Clumps of bleeding heart remain compact for many years and do not need dividing. Prolong flowering by removing faded blooms.
